Your Itinerary

Day 1 – A Gentle Beginning

Our Scottish rail journey begins with a relaxed departure from the local area, travelling in comfort to our overnight hotel. As the miles drift by, there is time to settle in, meet fellow travellers and look forward to the days ahead, before enjoying a leisurely dinner and a restful night.

Day 2 – Into the Highlands

We travel north into the heart of the Scottish Highlands, where the landscape opens into wide glens, distant mountains and ever-changing skies. The sense of space and tranquillity grows as we arrive at the elegant Priory Hotel, our Highland base, perfectly placed for the adventures to come.

Day 3 – The Far North Line: Edge of the World

Today’s rail journey follows the legendary Far North Line, the most northerly railway in the United Kingdom. From the comfort of our carriage, watch as wild moorlands unfold, salmon rivers shimmer and historic distilleries dot the landscape. The line hugs the North Sea coastline in places, offering dramatic sea views and a true sense of travelling at the edge of the world.

Day 4 – The Kyle Line: Scotland at Its Most Beautiful

Few journeys rival the beauty of the Kyle Line from Dingwall to Kyle of Lochalsh. This iconic route glides past mirror-like lochs, cascading waterfalls and vast mountain scenery, revealing the untamed grandeur of the northern Highlands. Every bend in the track offers a new postcard-perfect view, making this a day to savour slowly.

Day 5 – Steam, Forests and Highland Cattle

A nostalgic step back in time awaits aboard the beautifully restored Strathspey Railway, travelling from Aviemore to Broomhill through the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Large windows frame views of pine forests, rolling hills and the gentle flow of the River Spey. Our day continues at the exclusive Rothiemurchus Estate, where the charming Hairy Coo Safari offers an unforgettable encounter with Scotland’s iconic Highland cattle in a magnificent natural setting.

Day 6 – A Scenic Farewell

We bid farewell to the Highlands with a leisurely scenic drive south, passing through glens and mountain landscapes that linger in the memory long after they disappear from view. A final overnight stay allows time to reflect on a journey rich in beauty, heritage and unforgettable moments.

Day 7 – Homeward Bound

After breakfast, we begin our journey home, carrying with us lasting memories of dramatic landscapes, classic railways and the timeless magic of the Scottish Highlands.

Please note we reserve the right to amend/change the itinerary should circumstances dictate. Our Railway journeys are planned months in advance and may be subject to change by the rail operators
